Social Media and Communications Student Assistant

The Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College is seeking an undergraduate student assistant to manage and enhance the college’s social media content, assist with general communications, and provide general office support. Social media and communications work is supervised by the Recruitment and Communications Specialist, and general office work is supervised by the Administrative Specialist. Must have experience in or demonstrated willingness to learn social media content management. Background in communications or marketing strongly preferred. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to exercise discretionary judgment regarding student information and dean’s office communication. 

Social Media and Communications Responsibilities:

  • Manage the college social media accounts (Instagram and Facebook) including creating social media content and scheduling social media campaigns 
  • Regularly review, manage, and update social media and communications calendar as needed to support college communication needs
  • Maintain college website accuracy and effectiveness in collaboration with office staff
  • Manage production of a weekly college newsletter
  • Create posts and flyers to support college programming
  • Identify stories and content that align with the college and university brand and priorities 
  • Develop new or “outside of the box” content and strategies to target different audiences
  • May train student organization officers on effective social media content and communication strategies for student programming
  • Share information and work collaboratively with the digital media and engagement student assistants 

General Office Responsibilities include:

  • General reception including greeting guests, answering questions in-person, over the phone, and via email
  • Understand the resources available in the Cohen Honors College and direct students, staff, and faculty to appropriate resources or people within the office
  • Manage the student study area, printer and lounge
  • Manage minor supply orders
  • File, copy, scan documents
  • Assist with classroom setup and media support
  • Conduct data entry and records
  • Exercise discretionary judgment regarding student information and dean’s office communication
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned by office staff

  • Willingness to learn and take on challenges
  • Strong interest in customer service to present a positive image of the Honors College and the University
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience in marketing, social media, and /or journalism strongly preferred 
  • Experience working with MS Office applications including Teams, Word, and Excel
  • Experience using Canva or a similar design software
  • Honors or Honors-eligible student with knowledge of Honors College resources

Hours per week: A student who works in the Cohen Honors College is expected to work 15-20 hours per week.

Schedule Information: Morning shift: 8am-12pm | Afternoon shift: 1-5pm (schedules can be flexible)
