Student Assistant - University Police Department & Parking Services

Student parking position
Position Overview
Primary responsibility is to assist with front office tasks as it related to the University Police Department and Parking services and patrolling parking areas on foot.

JOB FUNCTIONS
Parking Enforcement, Customer Service, Money Handling, Misc.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Answer front desk phone lines
  • Greet customers as they come in, assess their needs
  • Money handling (i.e. selling ePermits, taking citation payments)
  • Provide accurate parking information to customers in person and over the phone
  • Issue citations for violations of WSU Parking Regulations (vehicles backed in, handicap and motorcycle parking areas, parking garage, etc.)
  • Patrolling parking lots on foot with handheld devices
  • Assisting with special parking-related issues, i.e. special parking lot reservations (erecting signs, barriers, traffic cones, staffing parking lot for special events, etc.)
  • Working with the Parking Service Officer’s and helping put out Parking Advisory Flyers
  • Assisting with parking complaints
  • Other duties as directed

REQUIREMENTS
  • Be professional, have integrity, and adhere to the WSUPD Mission and Core Values
  • Ability to remain calm under stressful situations
  • Professional appearance (per the University Police Department guidelines). Issued equipment will include traffic vest and radio.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work in different conditions
  • Be enrolled the minimum credit hours per WSU Policy 8.02/Regular Student Employment

DESIRED SKILLS/Knowledge
  • Criminal Justice major (preferred but not required)
  • Ability to work with a diverse population
  • Knowledgeable of parking regulations on campus
  • Familiar with the University, where buildings and parking lots are located
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen carefully and build positive relationships
