Genealogical Research Intern

We are looking for two interns for Spring 2020 to support Genealogical Research and Historical Research in the Butler County Historical Society/Kansas Oil Museum Research Library in El Dorado. The Research Library is simultaneously an extensive genealogical and history project, connecting people to their heritage and providing for and assisting with their research projects.

We require someone who is very comfortable with teamwork, historical research, and new initiatives. The candidate should possess the ability to display imagination, ingenuity, and humor in solving problems, be comfortable with the creative demands of new initiatives such as shifting priorities, and an enjoyment in working with a diverse range of people.

The intern(s) will work with and report to the Executive Director. The position will also have exposure to Volunteers and other Staff Members.

Areas of Responsibility: There are three major areas of support the intern(s) will provide: Research, Preparation of communications materials. Research regarding historic events used for event & exhibit development. 
Research duties may include historical and genealogical research under the direction of professional genealogists and historians, maintaining research records and preparing research summaries, and helping to collect and assemble historical materials stored at BCHS/KOM.

Communications duties may include preparing materials for use in online communications, grant proposals, and other communications needs under the direction of the Executive Director and Staff Historians including editing materials prepared by others and drafting new material.

This is a 12 week internship of 10 hours per week with hours negotiated with the selected intern(s). There is a potential of a part-time staff position being offered following internship. Please send a resume and references to tiya@kansasoilmuseum.org.
